Singer‐songwriter and rock guitarist Fatoumata Diawara is an observant chronicler who comments musically on political developments in her native Mali. However, the fact that her music deals with gloomy topics such as the threat to freedom posed by Islamist terror, corruption or forced marriage cannot be overheard.
