De Britse compositietraditie heeft een rijke, roemrijke geschiedenis en ontwikkelde zich tot een uitzonderlijke muziekschool met componisten als Purcell, Gibbons en de 'geadopteerde' Händel. Van de Edwardiaanse invloeden van de bekwame Elgar, wiens Enigma Variations in 1899 zijn faam als geliefd Engels componist versterkten, tot William Walton, bekend om zijn briljante, vermakelijke Façade Suite, en Ethel Smyth, wiens Concerto voor de unieke combinatie van hoorn en viool een van haar latere werken vertegenwoordigt. Anna Rakitina, dirigent en winnaar van de prestigieuze European Culture Award 2025, begeleidt ons op deze reis over het Kanaal.

| Orkest: | Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi Known colloquially as 'La Verdi', Milan's famed symphony orchestra was formed in the early 90s to supplement the city's already‐generous cultural offering. Making its home in Milan's Auditorio, La Verdi features among Europe's most respected and admired symphonic ensembles. Its first Musical Director, Ricardo Chailly, now holds the title of Conductor Laureate, while the Austrian conductor, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, a fast‐rising star in the orchestral firmament took over the role of Musical Director in 2024, following in the footsteps of several major names in the classical world. La Verdi welcomes a starry roster of soloists and guest conductors over the course of an extensive and varied annual season, and regularly features as guests of honour at important state occasions and international concert engagements. |
