Europa en Amerika. Dit programma brengt Martinů en Dvořák samen, twee componisten die ondanks de omstandigheden wereldburgers werden toen ze hun vaderland, nu bekend als Tsjechië, verlieten. Het programma begint met Dvořáks Carnival Overture. Aan het einde van de 19e eeuw stak hij de Atlantische Oceaan over om leiding te geven aan het New York Conservatory. Martinůs zeldzame en veeleisende Rhapsody‐Concerto voor altviool en orkest staat ook op het programma en weerspiegelt zijn gedwongen vertrek uit Europa tijdens de donkere periode van de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Dit complexe programma culmineert in Schumanns Rheinische Symfonie onder leiding van Cornelius Meister, sinds 2018 algemeen muziekdirecteur van de Staatsopera van Stuttgart, met Sarah McElravy op altviool, een veelzijdige artieste die zowel als violiste als altvioliste uitblinkt.

Known colloquially as 'La Verdi', Milan's famed symphony orchestra was formed in the early 90s to supplement the city's already‐generous cultural offering. Making its home in Milan's Auditorio, La Verdi features among Europe's most respected and admired symphonic ensembles. Its first Musical Director, Ricardo Chailly, now holds the title of Conductor Laureate, while the Austrian conductor, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, a fast‐rising star in the orchestral firmament took over the role of Musical Director in 2024, following in the footsteps of several major names in the classical world. La Verdi welcomes a starry roster of soloists and guest conductors over the course of an extensive and varied annual season, and regularly features as guests of honour at important state occasions and international concert engagements.
