Met een danspas neemt Emmanuel Tjeknavorian het publiek mee op een ontdekkingsreis langs enkele van de meest kostbare pagina's gewijd aan ballet. Hij doet dit door 'zijn' interpretatie van dit repertoire voor het eerst op het podium van het Auditorium van Milaan te brengen, met een suite die hij zelf heeft gecreëerd uit het ballet Gayane van zijn illustere landgenoot Aram Khachaturian. Samen met het Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano creëert de muziekdirecteur een reisroute die gericht is op ballet: naast de Armeense componist vinden we Stravinsky met The Firebird, een perfecte uitdrukking van zijn 'Russische' compositiefase, en Manuel de Falla met The Three‐Cornered Hat, beide balletten geschreven voor de briljante Diaghilev, deus ex machina van de Ballets Russes.

Orkest: Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi

Known colloquially as 'La Verdi', Milan's famed symphony orchestra was formed in the early 90s to supplement the city's already‐generous cultural offering. Making its home in Milan's Auditorio, La Verdi features among Europe's most respected and admired symphonic ensembles. Its first Musical Director, Ricardo Chailly, now holds the title of Conductor Laureate, while the Austrian conductor, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, a fast‐rising star in the orchestral firmament took over the role of Musical Director in 2024, following in the footsteps of several major names in the classical world. La Verdi welcomes a starry roster of soloists and guest conductors over the course of an extensive and varied annual season, and regularly features as guests of honour at important state occasions and international concert engagements.
