Rimsky‐Korsakovs betoverende Scheherazade, met de eerste akkoorden gespeeld door Luca Santaniello, concertmeester van het Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, voert ons mee naar exotische werelden om met onze zintuigen en emoties het verhaal te ontdekken van een vrouw die een sultan betoverde met haar verhalen uit Duizend‐en‐een‐nacht. In dit programma brengt het veelzijdige talent van pianist en dirigent Sunwook Kim dit meesterwerk samen met een hoogtepunt uit het pianorepertoire: Beethovens Vierde Concerto voor piano en orkest, waarin voor het eerst in de geschiedenis de piano de eerste stilte onderbreekt, voorafgaand aan de traditionele orkestrale inleiding.

Known colloquially as 'La Verdi', Milan's famed symphony orchestra was formed in the early 90s to supplement the city's already‐generous cultural offering. Making its home in Milan's Auditorio, La Verdi features among Europe's most respected and admired symphonic ensembles. Its first Musical Director, Ricardo Chailly, now holds the title of Conductor Laureate, while the Austrian conductor, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, a fast‐rising star in the orchestral firmament took over the role of Musical Director in 2024, following in the footsteps of several major names in the classical world. La Verdi welcomes a starry roster of soloists and guest conductors over the course of an extensive and varied annual season, and regularly features as guests of honour at important state occasions and international concert engagements.
