Gustav Mahlers Zevende symfonie in e mineur behoort tot de meest raadselachtige en fantasierijke creaties van de componist; een werk dat de luisteraars meeneemt door een opmerkelijke reeks contrasterende sferen en emotionele landschappen.
De symfonie, die vaak het ‘Lied van de Nacht’ wordt genoemd, ontvouwt zich in vijf delen en voert de luisteraars mee van schaduwrijke nachtelijke taferelen en mysterieuze klankwerelden naar momenten van uitbundigheid, schittering en theatrale energie. Mahlers uiterst inventieve orkestratie en weidse muzikale visie zorgen voor een werk dat het publiek blijft fascineren met zijn complexiteit en originaliteit.
Onder leiding van Hartmut Haenchen biedt deze uitvoering de kans om een van de meest kenmerkende hoogstandjes uit het symfonische repertoire te beleven, waarbij het buitengewone scala aan expressie, kleur en verbeeldingskracht wordt onthuld dat het muzikale universum van Mahler kenmerkt.
