Pour ce concert unique lors de l'été musicale 2009 à Grafenegg, le Tonkünstler Orchester de Basse‐Autriche rencontre des chanteuses du chorus sine nomine, d'excellents solistes du jazz et des performateurs virtuoses africains avec des instruments traditionnels.


La musique du continent africain a influencé la musique occidentale  dans des manières différentes, difficile à réunir dans un seule spectacle. Des légendes du Rock et du Jazz, un compositeur contemporain Suisse, des musiciens d'Afrique et d'Autriche et un dirigent estonien seront unis dans ce programme varié; suivant un medley de musique d'Abdullah Ibrahim, John Coltrane et Jimi Hendrix, la seconde partie du concert offre l'oratoire africain "Sundiata Keïta" ("Le Roi Lion") — pour la première fois en Autriche.

 

Exoticism is the buzzword when composers borrow musical language from geographically distant cultures. Music from the African continent has influenced occidental music in so many different ways that justice can hardly be done in a single event. Jazz and Rock legends from the USA, a contemporary Swiss composer, musicians from across Africa and Austria and an Estonian conductor are all in the thrall of this huge continent, with a programme that is as colourful as it is diverse; following a medley of music by Abdullah Ibrahim, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington and rock icon Jimi Hendrix, the second half of the concert will see the African oratorio «Sundiata Keïta» («The Lion King») premiered in Austria.
