Ensemble Villancico: Stockholm Early Music Festival
A propos du spectacle
Baroque music from Ecuador is not something you hear everyday. The pieces for choir from the 1680's found in a convent in Ibarra are quite a sensation. Ensemble Villancico presented this world premiere in 2010. The combination of colourful, rhythmic early Latin American repertoire with a vocal/instrumental ensemble trained in the Swedish tradition has led Ensemble Villancico to a a world‐wide reputation and a leading position in the genre. The concert will open with a pre‐Colombian Inca ritual, presented by the Ecuadorian musicians and artist Santiago Avellaneda, together with musicians performing on traditional instruments from the Andes.
The Stockholm Early Music Festival is the largest international event for historical music in the Nordic countries, and alone in Sweden in presenting repertoire from baroque, renaissance, and medieval times in one festival. With variation and quality as its motto, the festival highlights the diversity of early music, offering a programme of known and unknown music from all over the world, featuring well‐renowned Swedish and international artists. The festival has been held annually in the historical setting of Stockholm’s Old Town since 2002, in the special summer atmosphere of early June.
Please note that the concert is without interval.
