Piano: Philippe Alegre

The French concert pianist has forged a successful international career that combines all aspects of the pianistic art — from solo recital to chamber music and collaborative work with vocal artists, Alègre has conquered stages around the world. In addition to his performance engagements, he is the founder of the musical association Musicatem, and artistic director of the concert series 'Piano Passion', presenting up‐and‐coming stars alongside established names of the piano world in concert at Paris' Church of Saint‐Julien‐le‐Pauvre.

Frederic Chopin

Frederic Chopin was a Polish composer and pianist of the Romantic area (early 19th century). He wrote primarily piano solos but also piano concerts, chamber pieces and songs set to Polish lyrics. He is well-known as a poetic genius without competition of his generation. In fact, he created the concept of instrumental ballade and his performances were noted for their sensitivity and fine distinction. He spent most of his life in Paris, where he performed for the intimate atmospheres of salons. For most of his life, he suffered poor health. As a result, he died quite young at the age of 39, probably of tuberculosis.

    It was a lovely evening, and the change in the exact program and performer made no difference given the immense talent of Julien Poirier combined with the acoustic qualities of the site. I can't help but wonder if the multinational audience wouldn't benefit from a brief presentation of the evening's program and the performer.
