Jean-Sébastien Bach
Le nom Bach et le mot musicien ont longtemps été synonymes en Allemagne, puisque le monde a connu 56 musiciens issus de cette famille. Mais c'est Johann Sebastian Bach, compositeur de génie et virtuose de l'orgue, qui a fait rayonner le nom de sa famille. Il est né le 31 mars 1685 à Eisenach, une petite ville de Thuringe. À l'âge de 10 ans, il est devenu orphelin et a été élevé par son frère aîné Johann Christoph, qui était organiste dans une ville voisine. C'est son frère qui a enseigné la musique au jeune Johann Sebastian. Plus tard, il déménagea à Lunebourg où il fréquenta une école religieuse et maîtrisa les techniques du violon, de l'alto, du piano et de l'orgue à l'âge de 17 ans. En outre, Bach était chanteur dans une chorale et, plus tard, après avoir mué, il devint assistant chantre. En 1703, Bach fut engagé comme musicien de cour dans la chapelle du duc Johann Ernst III. Il y acquit une telle réputation qu'il fut ensuite invité à Arnstadt pour devenir organiste à la Nouvelle Église, où il composa ses plus belles œuvres pour orgue. En 1723, il s'installa à Leipzig pour devenir chantre à l'église Saint-Thomas, où il resta jusqu'à sa mort d'une attaque cérébrale en 1750. L'année de sa mort, il subit une opération des yeux qui échoua et lui fit perdre la vue. Pendant cette période difficile, sa deuxième épouse, Anna Magdalena, l'aida à écrire ses dernières compositions musicales. L'héritage artistique de Bach est immense. Il composa dans tous les genres de l'époque : oratorios, cantates, messes, motets, musique pour orgue, piano et violon.

Incredible musicians! Loved watching their fingers fly while drawing beautiful music out of the violin & guitar. Very good acoustics & lovely settings although the chairs could have been a bit more comfortable. I highly recommend these musicians & the venue which was small & intimate.

très belle prestatation de Bach à St Germain. Je regrette cependant qu'aucun programme, ne serait‐ce qu'une simple feuille A4 N&B, détaillant le programme ne soit distribué. Impossible de savoir combien de mouvements comportait chaque sonate. d'où des applaudissements à contre temps dans l'auditoire. Les musiciens ne se sont pas présentés, quel dommage.

Beautiful venue — not in the main sanctuary but in the chapel off to the right, intimate, great acoustics, but very uncomfortable chairs. Only set up for about 50, you hear every squeak and movement in the audience; must be distracting for the solo musician! But the music was outstanding — we only stayed through the first piece (half hour) due to discomfort and warm temp in the chapel. Beautiful experience though!

Disappointed in the misrepresented venue. The picture shows St. Germaine du Pres church but the venue is actually a chapel that is quite austere and spare. Truly disappointed. Left early with my 3 guests.

First thing that strikes you is the intimacy of the venue, which by the way is very well located for dinner beforehand. The music selection was wonderful and the soloist was so talented. The combination of the two, along with the incredible acoustics of the abbey make this something you'll never forget!

An excellent performance, very lively and humourful, including the words about how the Variations came to be written for a Count who suffered from insomnia. The performance was certainly the opposite of soporific! Terrific! The setting was very enjoyable too. Please continue these performances!
