Yosif Feigelson enjoys a solo career spanning over three decades. He has been praised for his marvellously singing tone, effortless technique and sincere, enlightening interpretation. He has been compared to Caruso. Fiegelson was the student of Rostropovitch at the Moscow Conservatoire, continuing his studies with Natalja Gutman. Winner of the prestigious Tchaikovsky (1974) and J. S. Bach (1976) competitions, he toured throughout the former Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc countries. He made his New York debut in 1988; he performed with the New York Chamber Orchestra in all major halls in New York City. Feigelson has been the guest soloist with Pittsburgh, Detroit, Seattle, Richmond, Charleston and Knoxville symphony orchestras, Chicago Symphonietta, Brooklyn Philharmonics etc. In 1990 the cellist received the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant. He has collaborated with some of the world’s best known musicians like Barbara Hendricks, Vladimir Feltsman, Bella Davidovitsh, Oleg Kryssa, Juri Bashmet, Neeme Järvi, Gennadi Rozhdestvensky, Lukas Foss, Lawrence Foster, Gerard Schwarz, Andre Raphel Smith and Moshe Atzmon. Yosif Feigelson’s repertoire consists of more than 50 cello concertos, an equal number of sonatas and other works for cello, including his own transcriptions for cello.
