Offenbach's fantastical farce — a precursor to the Tales of Hoffmann — was rarely staged beyond its hugely‐successful premiere, due to the prohibitive cost of mounting a production in the 1800's. Now however, a starry cast, including Dame Felicity Lott, bring King Carrot to life in Laurent Pelly's new production.
