Südlich des Torget erhebt sich eines der schönsten mittelalterlichen Bauwerke Norwegens, dessen Schutzheiliger St. Svithun ist. Sein Arm sollte der Kirche als Reliquie dienen.
Die Steinkirche wurde 1125 vom Bischof Reinald von Winchester in Auftrag gegeben, nachdem Sigurd Jorsalfar Stavanger zum Bischofsitz machte. Der Sage nach wurde die Kirche gebaut, um den König zum dritten Mal zu segnen.
