In one of his interviews, Steidl explained that “a guitar is basically a romantic instrument and as such I will continue to embrace it. I grew up with these compositions; I have the feeling that I heard them when my mother sang to me and they actually constitute my musical roots”. Steidl studied in Prague, and later on moved to the Netherlands, where he familiarised himself with early music. Especially inclined towards Ton Koopman’s interpretation, Steidl’s programmes often include baroque compositions. The artist is also a successful composer. In 2003, the Italian guitar magazine Guitart pronounced Steidl one of the eight most important guitarists.
