Michael Schønwandt & SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden‐Baden und Freiburg

Über die Veranstaltung

To close this Nordic season, which began under the sign of the gods in the Ring, Michael Schønwandt offers us a coda: the sublime duet from the first act of Die Walküre, it too a hymn to nature, and to the return of spring that releases the passions and throws the bodies of those lost in love into the storms of destiny.

We are only now beginning to understand the full importance of the work of the Danish composer Carl Nielsen in the evolution of music in the 20th century. To serve it best, the SWR brings in conductor Michael Schønwandt, a compatriot of the composer, who has defended the latter’s work as an article of faith. And what better way to get to know this genius than with his Third Symphony, the “Espansiva”, a true Nordic pastorale, a song of the earth without words – but with singers! By the power and constancy of its rhythm, it develops and expands a dialogue that thus joins the movement ever reborn from nature.
