The Girona Art Museum houses the most important art collection in Girona, with unique works of Catalan art. The visit allows one to contemplate, in chronological order, pictorial and sculptural works from successive periods and styles (Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, realism, modernism and noucentisme). The tour of the permanent exhibition opens with a fragment of an early Christian tombstone from Empúries, and among the most relevant pieces in the collection are the liturgical complex of Sant Pere de Rodes (9th century), the Martyrology of Usuardo (miniature book from the s. XV) and one of the most notable altarpiece sets of the XV‐XVI centuries. From February 25 to January 28, 2024, the temporary exhibition "Explosions of an instant, 70s. The contribution of the artists to the art collection of the Avui newspaper" is available. The old episcopal palace is, after the Cathedral, one of the most monumental buildings in the city.
