Über die Veranstaltung
Die Kerzenlicht‐Klavierkonzerte sind eine Hommage an den außergewöhnlichen und äußerst beliebten polnischen Komponisten Fryderyk Chopin. Chopin ist weltweit bekannt und gehört zu den Legenden der Musikgeschichte. Seine Werke zählen zu den exquisitesten Klavierstücken, die je komponiert wurden.
Neben ausgewählten Werken von Chopin stehen auch die schönsten Klavierkompositionen berühmter Komponisten wie Bach, Beethoven, Liszt, Schumann und Rachmaninow auf dem Konzertprogramm.
Die Einzigartigkeit der Konzerte liegt vor allem in ihrem Veranstaltungsort – der Rektoratskirche der Karmeliterpatres der Heiligen Katharina. Diese weitläufige gotische Kirche aus dem 13. Jahrhundert ist für ihre außergewöhnliche Akustik bekannt. Das Hören von Klaviermusik bei Kerzenschein an einem solchen Ort verspricht eine unvergessliche emotionale Reise, die eine bleibende Erinnerung hinterlässt.
In Danzig ist dies die einzige Gelegenheit, ein Klavierkonzert in einer Kirche zu besuchen!

Excellent pianist but too much 'modern' classical which was not to our taste. We had paid to hear a Chopin concert and we expected the majority of the programme to be just this. Very disappointing.

Extremely talented pianist, who played variety of works from Chopin to Schumann beautifully. St Catherine's a perfect setting for such a performance.

I had an absolutely wonderful evening at St. Catherine's candlelight performance. I don't know the performer's name (but he introduced himself having started playing piano at age 9, and he is now 21), he was SO TALENTED — wonderful execution of a program that highlighted Chopin but also a Liszt tribute to Chopin, a piece by an Italian, Scarlatti, and his closing piece by Polish composer (& PM) Pederweski. He introduced each piece in English and Polish, and the surroundings with candles and the church incense in the air, and the beautiful gothic architecture, just magnificent. They had space heaters which was a wonderful help in the chilled air, could not more enthusiastically recommend this experience. Thank you.

Het was prachtig, een mooie setting en de pianist was geweldig. Het was wel heel erg koud in de kerk, maar dat heeft niemand in de hand natuurlijk.

Setting in the church was great. The pianist, although clearly nervous and performance‐inexperienced was an excellent musician. What was missing was any information the programme or pieces we were listening to. At the price paid a small printed page of the evenings set would have been appreciated and appropriate.
