Those who seek only romantic sweet melodies in Schubert's music will be disappointed by Florian Boesch, Roger Vignoles, and Rudolf Leopold: They discover the hidden revolutionary in Schubert, the speaker of a lost generation whose dream of freedom and equality was systematically quenched in Metternich's times.

Through the "Schubertiaden", the cycles of chamber music and songs by Schubert, contemporaries found an outlet, especially when Schubert turned his musical attention to the young poets of his generation. In his songs based on poems by Körner and the Schlegel brothers, by Rückert and Mayerhofer, we find ourselves on the edge of a precipice, which finds its echo in late chamber music.
