Dresden Music Festival: Steven Isserlis & Olli Mustonen at Annenkirche

O wydarzeniu

In this highly‐anticipated concert, hear the mellifluous sounds of chamber music by Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Mustonen and Kabalevsky at Dresden's treasured and world‐renowned Annenkirche.

Steven Isserlis and Olli Mustonen are linked by a long‐standing musical friendship. The chamber music encounter between the two instrumentalists promises to be a very special one, not only because of the familiarity that can be felt in their concerts — the programme that the two renowned artists will present is also extraordinary: Kabalevsky's impressive Cello Sonata op. 71, composed in 1962 for Mstislav Rostropovich, was first performed in Moscow in 1962, with Kabalevsky himself at the piano. The sonata written for the same instrumentation by Olli Mustonen, who will also appear as a recording artist this evening, dates from 2006. Prokofiev's Ballade in C minor, op. 15, from 1912 is a continuation of his very early attempts at composition. The finale is Shostakovich's first large chamber music work, the popular Sonata for Violoncello and Piano op. 40, first performed in 1934.
