Dancing a new virtual world

Playful, joyful, poetic. Pixel, which premiered in 2014, brings the digital world in which our lives are embedded into the art of contemporary dance. The result is a captivating blend of hip‐hop and cutting‐edge digital projections in which dancers perform incredible acrobatic compositions in mid‐air while the stage moves beneath their feet or a spider web bursts like a blizzard.

The Centre Chorégraphique National de Créteil et du Val‐de‐Marne / Compagnie Käfig, under the artistic and choreographic direction of Mourad Merzouki, who trained in circus and martial arts before taking up hip‐hop dance at the age of 15, presents a piece that has been acclaimed in over 30 countries. A work that explores the constant bombardment of images and puts them at the service of the performing arts.

Constantly competing with images and living with multiple screens wherever we look, Murad Merzouki addresses the sense of anxiety and suspicion that the difference between reality and the virtual world may soon become indistinguishable. He transforms this fear into a creative dance project, a performance that takes us into the future. At the intersection of different disciplines, Pixel is a dialogue between dance and interactive video that opens new and shared horizons in the performing arts.

In collaboration with the Hotel Ribera de Triana and the Institut français de Seville.
