The music of Tunisian oud virtuoso Anouar Brahem combines Arabic traditions with the innovative spirit of jazz. At the Pierre Boulez Saal, Brahem is joined by three masters of their craft—bass player Dave Holland, drummer Nasheet Waits, and pianist Django Bates. The word “maqam” in the title of their program refers to the modal system of Arabic music, which is colored a “kind of blue” by the musicians.
