Tristan and Isolde

O wydarzeniu

Richard Wagner's monumental opera in three acts, with a libretto by the composer himself, will be performed in a co‐production with the Los Angeles Opera in Barcelona.

The source of Tristan und Isolde was a medieval poem by Gottfried von Strassburg (c. 1210), inspired in turn by a Celtic legend about the tragic love affair between Tristan and Isolde. The opera was first given at the Munich Court Theatre in 1865. Wagner turned the tale into a forceful expression of indomitable passion, which prevails over the lovers' own wills, the rules of morality and divine law and finds fulfilment only in death. The new type of music he used, with its fierce chromaticism, reaches the outer limits of tonality. It marked a pivotal point in Romantic opera and opened up new paths towards the music of our own times.

Experience the passion and drama of Wagner's opera, in a stunning production in Barcelona's Gran Teatre del Liceu.
