Tilson Thomas, St. Lawrence String Quartet & San Francisco Symphony: Ives, Adams & Beethoven, Salle Pleyel
O wydarzeniu
Michael Tilson Thomas, musical director of the San Francisco Symphony since 1995, honors two American composers in this first of two programs at the Salle Pleyel.
In A Concord Symphony, a transcription of Ives' Piano Sonata No. 2, the composer draws upon his connection with the transcendentalists. The French premiere of John Adams' Absolute Jest, a concerto for string quartet and orchestra, quotes fearlessly from Beethoven's symphonies and quartets. What better way, then, to end the program than with one Beethoven's great masterworks? The Symphony No. 7, with its breathtaking Allegretto, has been admired since its premiere in 1813.
