The Knight of the Rose
O wydarzeniu
Richard Strauss' great opera "Der Rosenkavalier" (The Knight of the Rose) will be performed in a co‐production with the Semper Oper Dresden at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.
Set in Vienna in the days of the Empress Maria Teresa, Rosenkavalier resembles a pleasant "musical comedy" of Mozartian inspiration with elements of opera buffa. The beauty and refinement of Strauss's orchestration, however, add a touch of tenderness and melancholy. A favourite feature of the opera are the Viennese waltzes which Strauss anachronistically worked into the score.
The dominant character is the Feldmarschallin, a noble lady from Vienna whose lucid awareness of the effect of the passing years enables her to give up her young lover Octavian, a role sung by a mezzo‐soprano in homage to Mozart's Cherubino.
Enjoy this taste of Vienna, performed by an excellent ensemble in the cultural heart of Barcelona.
