Based on Euripides' 'The Bacchae', W.H.Auden's libretto follows Pentheus, King of Thebes, as he challenges the authority of the god Dionysus, resulting in his own destruction at the hands of the Maenads. Celebrated Italian director Mario Martone brings the tale to the stage in a new production conducted by Stefan Soltesz, and starring an international cast, including Sara Fulgoni and Russell Braun.
Sung in English, with Italian and English surtitles.
