Song of Destiny: Orchestre National d'Ile de France
O wydarzeniu
Enjoy works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Schubert, performed by the Orchestre National d'Ile‐de‐France, pianist Cédric Tiberghien, and Ile‐de‐France Vittoria Regional Choir. Enrique Mazzola conducts this inspiring program at Salle Pleyel in Paris.
Schicksalslied means 'song of destiny,' an overtly romantic text in which music expresses the quest for the ideal and the unreachable. Before Brahms, both Schubert and Beethoven had already discovered how music could express this quest. Beethoven's Fourth Concerto begins with the soloist alone, like a secret … His Choral Fantasy requires further affect, though the music remains exquisitely intimate. The program features Schubert's Psalm 92 as a symbol: Sung in Hebrew, this work has long been forgotten and now sounds like a universal anthem.
