Rota conducts Rota: Vilnius Festival 2011
O wydarzeniu
Enjoy this wonderful tribute to Nino Rota with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and excellent soloists at the Vilnius Festival 2011!
As the 20‐th century Italian film tradition is inseparable from Federico Fellini so are his films inseparable from Nino Rota’s music. Nino Rota (1911–1979), perhaps one of the most renowned Italian film composers, was one of the leading 20th‐century music figures collaborating not only with Fellini, but also Visconti, Castelani, Borghesio and Zeffirelli among others. His soundtrack has also enriched Francis Ford Coppola’s legendary Godfather Trilogy.
On the occasion of Nino Rota’s birth centenary, the 15th Vilnius Festival invites to the festive symphonic music concert. Under the baton of Marcello Rota, the composer’s nephew, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and two soloists – Slovenian soprano Sabina Cvilak and Lithuanian double bassist Donatas Bagurskas – present Nino Rota’s intriguing and vivid retrospective: from his original symphonic compositions to soundtracks for Fellini, Zeffirelli and Coppola’s films.
Founded in 1997, the annual Vilnius Festival is one of the most prestigious, solid and versatile musical events in Lithuania. With primary interest in presenting classical music, performed by the established soloists, ensembles and symphony orchestras from all over the world, it also promotes contemporary Lithuanian music by commissioning new large‐scale works, and offers a platform for jazz and musical theatre.
