'Beethoven with a grin', so the Volkskrant about Ronald Brautigam's recent CD. The last of fifteen albums with all Beethoven's piano works. On fortepiano, the instrument for which the concerts were intended at the time. Brautigam plays them fresh and spicy. And that grin, Beethoven is in a good state, the critic continued. Today you can hear the Fourth Piano Concerto. 'I really believe that he wanted chamber music, not a competition between orchestra and soloist', says Brautigam. In his inventive concert he makes a plea with Die Kölner Akademie.
Mozart and Beethoven
Brautigam also recorded all of Mozart's piano concerts. And with exactly this evening's company: Die Kölner Akademie under the direction of Michael Alexander Willens. Superior', Gramophone judged their interpretation of the Piano Concerto no. 21. It almost looks like an opera, with the piano as a diva. You will also hear two overtures: that of Haydn's L'isola disabitata and that of Beethoven's Egmont.
