Choreographer John Neumeier introduces himself to his Baden‐Baden audience as an opera director. In addition to the staging, Neumeier has also created the choreography, stage, costumes and light, thus following the ideas of the composer Gluck, who emulated an ideal in his drama: the liberation of opera from spectacle and decoration in favour of a concentration of all the arts on the core of the event.
