Music About China VII: Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra

Join the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra for a musical adventure that explores the latest and the most avant‐garde Chinese music.

Now in its 7th year, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra’s signature series Music about China takes pride of place among the various glittering programmes of the Hong Kong Arts Festival. The 2013 concert marks the world premiere of three commissioned works: one by Zygmunt Krauze, composer from Poland and former president of ISCM – Poland Chapter, another by Doming Lam — dubbed the Father of New Music in Hong Kong, and a third, by Chung Yiu‐kwong, General Director of the Taipei Chinese Orchestra. Two works making their Hong Kong premiere are Hao Weiya’s Dizi Concerto No. 1, Flowers Blooming on the Paths in the Fields andWang Ning’s Ancient Tune of Weichuan. They will performed on the dizi by Dai Ya. Chung Yiu‐kwong's sheng concerto, Gourd Music, will be performed by Chen Yiwei, Assistant Sheng Principal of the HKCO.
