Milan Lasica & Bratislava Hot Serenaders: Prague Proms
O wydarzeniu
Meet the Bratislava Hot Serenaders Orchestra, who rank as one of a small number of niche musical ensembles to feature on the Slovak music scene. Since their inception in 1992, there has been hardly any change to the eighteen‐man strong set‐up who regularly gather to play in their spare time.
What exactly is it that ensures they retain such zeal when prospects can hardly be described as the best in the industry these days? First and foremost, it can be attributed to their passion for music which B.H.S members dedicate all their free time to. Their music travelled to Europe from the Unites States at the end of the nineties and is referred to as Hot Jazz or Sweet and Dance Music. Thanks to the booming gramophone business in 1920s America, the group has developed an ardent passion for collecting old authentic recordings which members listen to, staying up till late into the night to compile note‐for‐note rearrangements. After hours of practicing, out come the special vintage outfits and Brylcreem and off they go to play authentic instruments and sing into a lone microphone for an ever burgeoning audience.
The second reason explaining their enthusiasm is also tied to a love for music – except this time the roots can be found closer to home. The style first emerged in Slovakia, has been recorded in both Bratislava and Prague and revolves around one extremely popular name from that era: František Krištof Veselý. This doyen of Slovak pop music rose to fame at the start of the forties predominantly due to his many melodies which B.H.S members carefully handpick the very best of.
