Menahem Pressler & Paavo Järvi: Mozart & Sibelius

O wydarzeniu

Menahem Pressler celebrates his 90th birthday on stage with a Mozart concerto—an appropriate choice, given that his youthful energy is reminiscent of that vigorous composer. The Orchestre de Paris marks not only its long association with Pressler, but also the continuation of its Haydn cycle and that of the complete symphonies of Sibelius.

For Paavo Järvi, Haydn’s lively symphonies define the orchestra, attesting to its perfect health. Each season, he programs one of these evergreen works—hearkening back to his childhood, when he played them at the piano with his father, Neeme Järvi.

As for Sibelius, the Nordic composer who has faithfully accompanied Paavo Järvi throughout his tenure at the Orchestre de Paris thus far, the sixth and seventh symphonies will be offered. Composed in tandem, they represent the high point of Sibelius’ symphonic output: each is a very personal study in form, in color, and in the suggestive power of music.
