Last season, Paul Lewis and Mark Padmore travelled the long and lonely road of Schubert’s song cycles: tonight, they come to journey’s end with Schwanengesang.

Schwanengesang is the posthumous sequence that turns Schubert’s final thoughts in song form into a haunting postscript to a life cut short. The lovely, solitary Op.98 song cycle by Schubert’s inspiration and idol Beethoven should make a fitting contrast.
