Seize the opportunity to experience one of Verdi's most rarely‐performed masterpieces. Previously a vehicle for star sopranos and tenors, this gem from Verdi's middle period has only recently begun to reappear regularly on the stages of the world's leading opera houses.
In love with 'Carlo', the young Luisa is unaware that her beloved is in fact the son of the local noble family. Their love threatens the plans of both their fathers, and the scheming courtiers whose plans for the young couple do not include living 'happily ever after'. Betrayal, treachery, and the revenge of a deceived lover ensure that the opera ends in suitably tragic fashion.
Roberta Mantegna and Daniela Barcellona lead an exciting cast in a production created by opera's enfant terrible Damiano Michieletto for Zurich Opera and conducted by Roberto Abbado.
