The last in a series of delicious Robeco SummerNights: one more chance to recharge your batteries before the autumn. The philharmonic southern Netherlands dances all over the world with composers from many corners of the globe. And with super soloists: violinist Rosanne Philippens and guitarist Pablo Sáinz Villegas. Conductor Bas Wiegers explains the milestones from his extremely broad musical horizon in a catchy way.
Dancing with Rodrigo, Rossini and Ravel
With Rossini's overture from Il barbiere di Siviglia, a pounding of energy comes into the room. The beginning of an evening full of dancing. Ironic and airy in Shostakovich's Tahiti Trot, in which we recognize Tea for Two. Stately and glorious, as in Eric Coates' Knightsbridge March. Growing and seductive — of course Ravels Boléro is not lacking. Other pieces are on the danger of being killed, like Chakhachaturjans Sabeldans. Rosanne Philippens solemnly represents at the South Netherlands philharmony in Vaughan‐Williams' The Lark Ascending. Her violin is the lark who, dancing, disappears into the sky.
