Joy to the World! Zemlinsky Winds & Friends

O wydarzeniu

In this highly‐anticipated concert, hear the mellifluous sounds of chamber music by Strauss, Humperdinck, Anderson and Medaglia at Amsterdam's treasured and world‐renowned De Waalse Kerk.

Christmas is a time of togetherness, joy and celebration. The Zemlinsky Chamber Orchestra combines these elements in their program Joy to the World: a concert centered on music that evokes pure joy in every listener! This concert is also a special one, as it is the first concert in the 'ZCO & Friends' series in which the orchestra focuses on one orchestral section, this time the winds. Before intermission, a wind quintet consisting of ZCO members will play excerpts from Hänsel & Gretel, which is very popular in Germany around Christmas, among other things. After intermission, the quintet is joined by friends of ZCO members for Strauss' Second Sonatine: a symphony for wind instruments only.
Bridging the gap between symphonic forces and chamber music, the Zemlinsky Chamber Orchestra creates a powerful yet intimate experience of some of the greatest masterpieces of the 19th and 20th centuries. With Alexander von Zemlinsky as its symbol, the ZCO puts the focus on extraordinary, yet lesser‐known and underappreciated music and how it fits into society. The Zemlinsky Chamber Orchestra is an ensemble composed of young professional musicians from around the world, a hodgepodge ranging from soloists to chamber musicians to orchestral players. The orchestra has one of each instrument and varies instrumentation each concert.
