Renowned pianist Jonathan Biss will perform works by Schumann, Berg and Beethoven at the Rudolfinum in Prague.

Schumann's Fantasy in C Major Op. 17 is one of Schumann's greatest works for solo piano. Though dedicated to Franz Liszt, the Fantasy is deeply influenced by his relationship to Clara Wieck. The turbulent first movement expresses his distress over being apart from his beloved. Also Beethoven's 'Moonlight Sonata' is titled sonata quasi una fantasia (sonata in the manner of a fantasy) and it was only after Beethoven's death, that the sonata was likened to the effect of the moonlight shining over Lake Lucerne — a title remarked by the poet and critic Ludwig Rellstab. The beloved sonata has been known by this name ever since.
