The British Isles are featured in each of the items in this concert program: the remarkable German soloist Augustin Hadelich plays the First Violin Concerto by Joseph Haydn, who was awarded an honorary doctorate in Oxford. The contemporary English composition is represented by Thomas Adès, whose Violin Concerto constitutes a virtuoso highlight of the evening. After the interval you will then hear Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s world famous ‘Scottish’ Symphony.
