Frederick the Great's 300th Birthday: Concert & More

O wydarzeniu

Celebrate Frederick the Great's 300th Birthday at the Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin! This special series offers various combinations of a classical concert with dinner and tour at the palace.

The Prussian king Frederick the Great (1712 – 1786) was interested in all arts. He drew the sketches for his palace Sanssouci in Potsam himself and had it built by the architect von Knobelsdorff. He also had a very valuable art collection and was a gifted transverse flute player and composer. He had a well‐defined yet extremely narrow range of taste, causing him to largely ignore developments occurring in Europe in many areas. A famous meeting with Johann Sebastian Bach in 1747 in Sanssouci led to Bach writing “The Musical Offering”, based on an improvisation requested by the king.

The Charlottenburg Palace, the sumptuous Baroque summer residence of Prussian kings, has been a center for artistic creation and appreciation since its early days. This new concert series at Charlottenburg Palace's Grand Orangery offers locals and tourists a unique opportunity to experience Berlin's Baroque era.

In a truly exquisite candlelight ambiance, the Berlin Palace Orchestra presents masterpieces of music, sweeping audiences away to the golden era of Baroque and Classical music. Enjoy this musical journey back in time at one of the most historic and exclusive venues in Berlin. All members of the orchestra and staff members are dressed in historic costumes, creating a unique combination of the magic of times past and the amenities of modern day life.
