Belcea Quartet at the Concertgebouw: Shostakovich & Schubert
O wydarzeniu
Delve into the deepest questions of life with the celebrated Belcea Quartet, a group whose thirst for knowledge and exploration is a fundamental part of their artistic identity.
Shostakovich & Schubert struggle with questions of mortality in three very different quartets. Schubert's 'Death and the Maiden' quartet draws heavily on the song of the same name, and was composed as Schubert faced his own death. Shostakovich, by contrast, lived well past the premiere of his Third and Eighth quartets, but imbued both with a sense of powerlessness before an unstoppable force, whether war, illness, or the artistic repression of the Communist Party.
