Agony & Ecstasy: Il Pomo d'Oro at Carnegie Hall
O wydarzeniu
Revel in the passionate pangs of love as Maxim Emelyanychev and Il Pomo d'Oro explore the far‐flung reaches of Italian Baroque Opera. Emöke Baráth and Giuseppina Bridelli are the lovers reunited or torn assunder in extracts from works by Cesti, Cavalli and Porpora, among others.
A student of the great Monteverdi, Cavalli's operas, usually mythological in subject, and often risqué to the point of prohibition, ruled the Venetian public stages for nearly half a century after his mentor's death. Antonio Cesti's lyrical writing and intimate understanding of the voice enhanced his standing, whilst others such as Luigi Rossi or Nicola Porpora made lasting contributions to an art form that exploded in popularity over the course of the 17th Century.
