Accentus & Laurence Equilbey: Bach, Mantovani & Mendelssohn
O wydarzeniu
Mendelssohn was, in large part, responsible for the rediscovery of the 19th‐century cantor of Leipzig. The liturgical psalms and motets of both composers -- Mendelssohn and Bach himself -- capture a simplicity reminiscent of Palestrina; Bruno Mantovani, in turn, also exploits the resources of antiphony in his new Cantata, written in homage to J.S. Bach.
Whether addressed to a master (Shostakovich saluting Bach), to a patron (Dutilleux composing music based on the letters "Sacher"), or to a tradition (Rokia Traoré singing of her west African roots), an homage always conjures both memory and invention.
