Fryderyk Chopin był polskim kompozytorem i pianistą okresu romantyzmu (początek XIX wieku). Pisał przede wszystkim sola fortepianowe, ale także koncerty fortepianowe, utwory kameralne i pieśni do polskich tekstów. Jest znany jako poetycki geniusz nie mający konkurencji w swoim pokoleniu. To on stworzył koncepcję instrumentalnej ballady, a jego wykonania odznaczały się wrażliwością i subtelną dystynkcją. Większość życia spędził w Paryżu, gdzie występował w kameralnej atmosferze salonów. Przez większość życia cierpiał z powodu słabego zdrowia. W rezultacie zmarł dość młodo w wieku 39 lat, prawdopodobnie na gruźlicę.

Philippe Alegre was excellent. we got to St Julien le Pauvre early so we could have the best seats. his style of playing is very clean and his phrasing was really beautiful. he played a number of Chopin compositions — I love everything Chopin but particular enjoyed his Nocturne #20 C sharp and Nocturne #1 B flat minor, No 2 E flat Major and expecially Fantasie impromptuminor and
