Bruckner's Ninth Symphony and Gubaidúlina's Light of the End at L'auditori de Barcelona

O wydarzeniu

The music of Sofia Gubaidúlina, the leading contemporary Russian composer, is the ideal accompaniment for the Ninth Symphony because of its mysticism and the way in which it reflects sound, the essence of music. Robert Trevino, the Orquestra d’Euskadi’s new conductor, makes his début in Barcelona with one of Gubaidúlina’s most striking works, in which the composer reflects on the natural sound that instruments produce and the “orderly, well‐tuned” scale used in western music. The clash between the two types of sound conveys completely new, intense sensations. Bruckner worked on the Ninth until the end of his life but only completed three movements, which combine “Gothic mysticism” (in the words of the great conductor Furtwängler) and the joy of secular music, with a poignant final Adagio.

Bruckner creates magnificent musical structures and his Ninth Symphony is his crowning achievement. It reaches exceptional heights both as a sacred work of praise to God and a sentimental work which is a monument to artistic sensitivity.
