The current concert adds the most famous cello concerto to the most popular symphony of the 19th century — the latter is played here by cello legend Mischa Maisky. Both late works were written by the Czech Antonin Dvořák in America — thus full of American as well as Bohemian melodies, plus a good dose of melancholy: hidden in Dvořák's Cello Concerto is an instrumental requiem for his deceased sister‐in‐law.
