Isolated from his more modern contemporaries, Anton Bruckner was an iconoclast who built majestic and complicated symphonies, which require larger than life orchestras, sprawling brass sections, and a conductor with stamina and breadth of vision — like Herbert Blomstedt.

Bruckner, whose work inspired Gustav Mahler, among others, labored tirelessly over this symphony… and produced what is considered by many to be the peak of Romantic music.

    Es war ein besonders eindrucksvolles Konzert. Herbert Blomstedt hat das gewaltige Werk (auswendig!) mit diesem hervorragenden Orchester überzeugend dargeboten.
