Verdi'nin La Traviata'sının tadını çıkarın! Francesco Maria Piave'nin librettosu Alexandre Dumas'nın oğlunun 'La Dame aux Camelias' adlı roman ve oyununa dayanmaktadır. Üç perdelik bu çok sevilen opera ilk kez 6 Mart 1853'te Venedik'teki Teatro La Fenice'de sahnelendi.
Mart 1851'de La Fenice'de Rigoletto'nun çok başarılı prömiyerinin ardından Verdi, Mart 1853'te sahnelenmek üzere bu salon için bir opera yapmakla görevlendirildi. 1851/52 kışında Paris'te biraz zaman geçirdi ve orada Alexandre Dumas'nın yeni ve cesur bir oyununu izledi: 'La Dame aux Camelias'. Ancak Verdi bu konuda hemen karar vermedi. Tiyatro, Verdi'yi çağdaş dekoru terk etmeye ve aksiyonu 1700 yılına geri taşımaya zorladı. Bu Verdi'yi çok kızdırdı, ancak librettonun sansürden oldukça hızlı ve Venedik'te karşılaşmaya alışık olduğundan daha az sorunla geçmesinden dolayı rahatlamış bir şekilde kabul etti.
En başarılı ve en sevilen operalardan bazılarının alamet‐i farikası, prömiyerin pek de olumlu olmayan, hatta felaketle sonuçlanan bir şekilde karşılanmasıdır. La Fenice'de ilk kez sahnelendiğinde 'La Traviata' için de durum böyleydi. Tam anlamıyla bir fiyaskoydu. Fakat: Tam 14 ay sonra, 6 Mayıs 1854'te, yine Venedik'te, Teatro San Benedetto'da ezici bir başarı elde etti.

The 'Church of St. Paul within the Walls' was the first non-Catholic church built in Rome after Italy's unification. The church was built between 1873 and 1880 as an Anglican Basilica in the district of Castro Pretorio, Via Nazionale, Rome. Constructed in the Gothic Revival style, the distinctive external facade is characterised by alternating red and limestone bricks. Four spectacular mosaics by the English pre-Raphaelite Edward Burne-Jones, in collaboration with William Morris, are the crowning glory of the church's interior. The eagle-eyed will spot several famous nineteenth-century figures among those representing the fathers of the church in the elaborate mosaics, among them the artist himself, notable donors and their families, and Abraham Lincoln, Giuseppe Garibaldi and General Grant among the 'Christian Warriors'. Many delightful classical events are hosted in this location, including performances of popular operas like La Traviata.

The height of the ceiling made it difficult for the singers to project their voices. They could have done with a microphoned sound system. Otherwise good — very professional — except that the lead soprano tended sometimes to scream her top notes.
