For styriarte 2011, Nikolaus Harnoncourt will present Smetana’s opera as a potent piece of Czech realism.

Nothing here is simply beautiful alone, everything is ambiguous; despite finding inspiration in Bohemian folk music, the opera's dance‐like quality is full of pitfalls. Harnoncourt has assembled the ideal soloist ensemble to portray Smetana's intricate characters. The Chamber Orchestra of Europe brings Harnoncourt’s splendid interpretation of My Fatherland to life while the Arnold Schoenberg Chor proves itself once more to be one of the world's premiere opera choirs.
