Hamlet Cantabile: Salzburg Festival Young Directors Project

Az eseményről

The Montblanc & Salzburg Festival Young Directors Project presents 'Hamlet Cantabile' after William Shakespeare in cooperation with the Performance Group Tuida from South Korea.

An exorcism for Hamlet. Bobyree has found a skull while walking through the valley. The wind was making a sad tune passing through this skull. Near the skull was a faded notebook, which was likely to have belonged to the skull when he was still alive. Reading that notebook, Bobyree found that this skull’s name was Hamlet who couldn’t leave but wandered around this world every night. Bobyree decided to perform an exorcism to console his spirit. – A comic tragedy unfolded by four jesters – an utter confusion of puppets, masks and music.

Performance Group Tuida has earned the trust of both critics and audiences since its establishment in 2001 with its search for a new theatre language that utilises puppets, objects, and the human body as creative tools. Performance Group Tuida was established by eight graduates of the Korean National University of Arts. Aiming to create open, nature‐friendly and evolving plays, they have put new works out each year. Combining acting traditions of both Eastern and Western clowns, their plays are interfused with fantastic and creative puppets, masks and music. Their signature style is built upon continuous and bold experimentation. Both Korean and cosmopolitan, their performances have earned high acclaim in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the United States and Ireland during numerous international festivals.
