Britten Sinfonia, Thomas Adès & Pekka Kuusisto

演出简介

The Britten Sinfonia is an innovative and highly sought‐after chamber orchestra whose concerts offer the particularity (as do those of Les Dissonances) to present radically different formations, going from soloist to small ensemble and to full orchestra.

Highly involved in the development and promulgation of contemporary music, it has for the past several years worked in close collaboration with the English composer Thomas Adès. Erudite and expressive, his music often makes reference to the past, both in its formal construction and through literal quotations or the reuse of materials derived from other works. It is characterised by a highly rhythmic virtuosity, a refined writing style with massive changes in atmosphere.

This programme, conducted by the composer himself, is centred on two of his works: the Violin Concerto “Concentric Paths”, built in concentric form around its slow movement, and Three Etudes based on Couperin, a very subtle adaptation in which Couperin’s keyboard pieces are reconfigured for chamber ensemble. In a prelude to the latter, Thomas Adès presents two different versions of a piece by Couperin, the famous Barricades mystérieuses, in their original keyboard version and in a transcription for quintet.
